October Harvest

October Harvest

My plan is to get to the Coastal Black Pumpkin Fest in Black Creek this fall. On its 9th year, it's a great event where people may visit the farm until the end of October. It's an opportunity for those who want to be inspired by how to creatively celebrate the local harvest. It's pretty amazing.

On my wish list is Coastal Black's Blackberry Table Wine as well as Blackberry Apple Cider. Blackberries are one of my favourite berries. I pick them wild here - they seem to be everywhere. It's something I like to do, and I'm not the only one. At the end of the summer, I saw several Mama Bears berry-hunting with their tots in tow, on the local trails.

Along with many family-friendly things to do, the Coastal Black Pumpkin Fest features creative displays, a huge pumpkin patch and pumpkin-lined pathways. They sell delicious wines, ciders, and honey, among a lot of other things, set on a spectacular farm.

The other day I got an unexpected gift. It was a care package of homemade canning - jars of beautiful ripe tomatoes, perfect for pasta sauce. I also received some dried basil, parsley and pickled cucumbers. The jars were so beautiful with colours so warm, I just had to take a photo.

This is the season to set the dinner table with yummy vegetables from local farms and maybe even a fresh bottle of table wine for a special treat - a great way to celebrate the colours and tastes of October.

Thanks for reading!
